certification

The primary focus of the AIES is to train teachers about and within the Australian Oral Tradition. In order to do this, the Institute currently provides two high-quality and rigorous training programs: the Diploma of Enneagram Studies (General Certification) and the Advanced Diploma of Enneagram Studies (Theology of the Enneagram).

The courses are usually undertaken part–time, each over the course of one year, but both may be undertaken concurrently as a full–time, one year program. Program tuition is free, but students (or ‘interns’) are required to commit to the Brisbane Enneagram Project for a 12 month period.

Advanced Diploma of Enneagram Studies (Theology and Spirituality of the Enneagram)

Background

The earliest recorded reflections of the passions and virtues described by the Enneagram occur as part of the tradition of the Christian mystics living in the deserts of Egypt during the first 5 centuries CE. As such, an understanding of early monasticism and its literature is central to developing a deep understanding of the historical, philosophical and theological foundations of the Enneagram.

Competencies

To successfully complete the program, an intern must demonstrate the ability to:

  • Teach the historical and theological traditions of the Enneagram
  • Organise and assist to conduct an introductory level meditation retreat

Methodology and Study Commitment

Training for these competencies is undertaken by way of participation in the AIES’ Meditation Program. Interns must:

  • Attend and complete six meditation weekends
  • Attend and complete a nine-day meditation retreat
  • Present at least two 20 minute talks at the Brisbane Enneagram Project
  • Complete weekly coursework schedule covering history, psychology and theology of the Enneagram
  • Complete and pass a two-hour written examination
