10. Are some types more compatible than others?

All personality types are survival strategies or defences against a hostile or threatening or uncomfortable environment. They represent a psychological set of defences against the outside. As such, their operation causes relationships with any other personality type to be strained. While certain personality types may collude with other personality types in order to provide greater security for themselves or the elimination of competition, in the end, the functioning of the defensive psychologies leads to abandonment and loneliness.

The short answer is that highly energized personality types are by definition incapable of close intimate relationships with anybody else. It is only where self-awareness and self-mastery is present, where the personality’s impact has been softened, and the passion extinguished, that true love and intimacy is possible.
