4. How can I learn which personality type I am?

In order to identify which personality type you are, there are several options available:

(a) Read a book on the subject.

(b) Attend a workshop by a certified Enneagram teacher.

(c) Take a written test.

(d) Receive a clinical assessment by an experienced and certified Enneagram teacher.

Without doubt, the most useful way to discover your type is to receive a clinical assessment from an experienced Enneagram teacher. The legal dictum ‘buyer beware’, applies absolutely to the field of Enneagram studies. It is important to check out the teacher, who and where they trained, their experience, and what ongoing training, supervision or support they now receive.

Remember, the Enneagram is part of a process of spiritual direction. Teachers should be experienced and well trained in spiritual direction and be judged by their own integrity and behaviour.

The myriad of written tests available give only a rough guide to personality type. None of them have been scientifically validated at this stage.
