The Three Centres of Intelligence

There are three aspects of Human Intelligence - not just one!

The Enneagram describes three distinct aspects of human intelligence: Cognitive Intelligence (IQ), Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and Instinctual Intelligence (CQ). Everyone, regardless of culture or personal background uses one of these three aspects of intelligence to filter and understand the world and their experiences in it.

These three aspects of intelligence are sometimes referred to as The Three Cardinal Types. Each of the Cardinal  Types harbours an inherent belief about a single aspect upon which human survival and satisfaction depends.

Three Types

Each of the three intelligences can be further broken down into 3 specific focuses of attention, the expression of which is described by the Enneagram in terms of personality type, that is, patterns of thinking (IQ), feeling (EQ) and acting (CQ).

Each intelligence encompasses an introverted expression, an extroverted expression and a neutral expression of the Cardinal Type. The Enneagram describes 9 personality types in all.
